Cakes are one of the planet's most favourite candies and have a rich history behind them. The earliest evidence of candies and cooking food comes from the Egyptians, who were excellent bakers. They were the first persons to use natural yeast for making candies rise. According to foods historians, the word dessert is a derivation of 'kaka', an Old Norse word and denoted a prepared flour confection sweetened with glucose or honey. Medieval European bakers often developed clean fruit candies and gingerbread, and these could last for many months. By the 18th century, the invention of ordinary cooking food soda and the use of egg in candies greatly accelerated cooking food and dessert developing, and led to the development of new kinds of candies. Gradually, the differences between dessert and bread, biscuit and bun became indistinct.
