Dazzelite Solitaire is a Silica Carbide jewel , with its own unique properties and beauty . It is a naturally occurring gemstone, found in limited quantities in the earth. Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral with properties very close to Diamond. Almost as hard (Mohs hardness 9.2-9.3 vs. 10) and actually even more optically refracting than Diamond (refractive index 2.56-2.6 vs. 2.4). Like all other gemstones, it has been around for hundreds of thousands of years. However, it was only discovered as late as 1895 by a French scientist, Dr Henry Moissan, while investigating a meteor crash site in Canyon Diablo meteor crater located in Arizona. It took another 100 years for a process to be invented to manufacture jewelry-grade gem crystals in a laboratory.
