Microsoft Corp. recently announced that Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer has decided to retire as CEO within the next 12 months soon after selecting his successor. Till then, Ballmer would continue as CEO and lead Microsoft, according to the official statement. Ballmer said that there was never a perfect time for that type of transition, but now is the right time. They had embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and they had an amazing Senior Leadership Team. His original thoughts on timing would have had his retirement happen in the middle of their company’s transformation to a devices and services company. They needed a CEO who would be there longer term for that new direction.
