The festival of Rakshabandhan signifies the importance of brother and sister ties; the love and protection a brother promises his sister. On the occasion of Rakhi, the sister ties a small wristband, known as the “Rakhi” and in return the brother gives a gift. The gift may be a dress, jewellery or any other item. Children are encouraged by parents to continue this tradition of rakshabandhan. Gifts for children are in a different category and may vary according to age.
