Event Description-
A 2-day fun-filled workshop on writing English comedy for Indian audiences. You get to construct your own scripts, create screenplays, invent characters and learn the intricacies of directing for the stage, television and movies. Making of movies, films or play is a collaborative process which demands that those in screenwriting produce a document in particular format, notation, and length called a 'script.'Attending a writing course or workshop will almost certainly push your enthusiasm and motivation to a new level, provide you with a bucket load of new ideas for your current project and furnish you with the skill you need to ensure that your script is good enough to be broadcast. If you are new to screenwriting, planning to write a screenplay or script of any kind, the good news is that AVID writing workshop will make it easier and more innovative.

Course Content & Outline
Film: The mechanics of various forms of Comedy Writing
• Favorite Comedy Films. What makes it work?
• What are the essential elements in the story and characters that make it funny?
TV:
• What are your favorite comedy TV shows? Why?
• What’s the essential difference between writing TV comedy and film characters?
• How does one make characters enduring and continuous?
Plays:
• What are the great comic plays of all time?
• Why do the work? What’s the essence of a stage comedy?
Stand-up:
• How does one write a stand up show?
• Can it even be written? How much is improvisational?
• Basics of writing a funny scene
Discussion on key elements:
• What do you need to write a funny scene? Scenario? Act?
• What are the essential elements?
• Do we have to work with them or ignore them?
• What do you want to write about.
Writing Assignment:
• Writing your script
• Find the beginning-the middle –the end
Staging:
• Sharing your work with the class.
• Discussion on what’s working, how to develop it further.
• Work in groups on the selected scripts. (Enact the script).
