A flower is the reproductive of an angiosperm plant. There is an enormous variety of flowers, but all have some charactistics in common. Two sharp tipped and fat bodied leaves stuck off the stem. One was attached near the head of the flower. The other connected in the middle of the stem. Both leaves were etched down the center with a long groove. From the groove, other smaller lines extended to the edges of the leaves, simulating veins. Man has always been fascinated by flowers. The fossil record shows that Neanderthals used flowers in burial rites. During the middle Ages, flowers were used in politics and ritual. The Victorian era placed high value on them, with the wearing of flowers equated with being well-dressed. Flowers, through reproduction, provide seeds and food, which is perhaps their most important function. Some flowers, such as mullein with its anti-inflammatory properties, have medicinal uses. Flowers have other non-tangible benefits.
