IGSSS is a national non government ngo working for promoting participation and democratic governance. IGSSS works for capacity building and enlightenment of the vulnerable communities across the country through rights-based framework for their effective participation in development. IGSSS managed the Homeless Citizens Resource Centres (HCRCs) in Central and was responsible for the survey of Urban Poverty in India and Homelessness in India and the distribution of homeless cards.
Our vision is to informed, empowered citizens participate in the process of deepening democracy with tolerance towards its large numbers and diversity. Since 1972 poverty has been defined on basis of the money and buy food worth 2100 calories in urban areas and 2400 calories in rural areas. The term poverty is a relative concept. It is very difficult to draw a demarcation line between affluence and poverty. Challenges of Homeless People in India are intimately tied with challenges of the country’s fast development.
